Techno Geek (Oct ’17): Great Gadgets for Skiing

Dji Mavic Pro Platinum

Dji Mavic Pro Platinum

Let’s face it; selfies are passé, especially when you’re surrounded by awesome scenery. However, pack a DJI Mavic Pro Platinum drone and you’ll be able to make your own Hollywood-quality holiday movies. This drone can stay airborne for 30 minutes at 15.5mph (it can hit 40 in sport mode), and capture 4K video from up to 7km away.

Dji Mavic Pro Platinum

This model is also the quietest. As it can fold up to H83mm x W83mm x L198mm, you can take it wherever your adventure leads (not beyond 5,000m above sea level).

The Arc’teryx Voltair Avalanche Pack

Arc’teryx Voltair Avalanche Pack

The Arc’teryx Voltair 30 is a 30-litre, 3.5kg backpack that could save your life. It is actually an advanced avalanche airbag pack capable of multiple deployments in a single day (handy if you’re particularly unlucky). Its custom-designed rechargeable battery and powerful centrifugal blower achieve the same pressure and fill rates as gas cartridge systems, then pulse additional air that helps maintain inflation in case of minor punctures. Designed for the backcountry, the pack is made using highly durable, weatherproof AC² technology, and offers a full 30L of intelligently organised gear space.

Madshus Smart Ski

Madshus Smart Ski

If you’re heading out for a bit of cross-country skiing, strap on some Madshus skis. Not only do these ones possess a specifically tuned camber profile, P200 Plus base, and Speed Tip Plus splay, the Redline Carbon Skate Plus is the perfect ski for soft snow and warmer conditions. Furthermore, as Madshus skis are chipped, there’s an app that lets you customise performance each and every time you head on to the snow thanks to the embedded wax helper. You can also manage your ski quiver, track workouts, and engage with Madshus online.

Alpine A110

I couldn’t resist sneaking this once iconic French sports car brand in, especially as Alpine is due for a spectacular return. This mid-engined two-seater sports coupe remains true to the spirit of its predecessors. The new A110’s ultra-light 1080kg kerb weight and 44% front/56% rear weight distribution, and low centre of gravity point to agility. Equipped with a new 1.8l four-cylinder turbocharged engine developed by the Renault-Nissan Alliance, it has been further customised by Alpine’s engineers and Renault Sport to produce a 0-100 km/h time of only 4.5 seconds.
