Hanhart Primus Black Ops Pilot (2017)
German watch brand Hanhart have been producing their unfailingly precise, technically innovative timepieces since 1882. Their watches, which are for use in the air, on land or on sea, are united by their robustness and clean, practical design.
The company have an illustrious history; they launched the first affordable mechanical stopwatch in 1924 and quickly became the go-to brand in the stopwatch sector, with every school using a Hanhart stopwatch for timekeeping in the Sixties. Even now, Hanhart is still Europe’s favourite for stopwatches. This technical nous is reflected in production itself – the company began manufacturing watches early on at their production site in Gütenbach, southern Germany.

The Primus Black Ops Pilot, the brand’s newest release, shows the technical advances that just keep on coming. It’s a cool update of 2015’s Primus Survivor Pilot and, while it takes key features from it, they’ve been given an impressive makeover. Limited to just 82 pieces (a nice homage to Hanhart’s foundation year) it can withstand any circumstance.

Clad in the colours of Hanhart’s home, the Black Forest, it’s toughened by a black DLC coated stainless steel case which is both contemporary and functional. The aesthetic, as a whole, is on point. We especially love the bronze green dial with luminous numerals and the pops of red, while the khaki textured strap adds cool points. It’s a chronograph for everyone, from a brand you can rely on. What’s not to love?
